February is Maryland Heart Health Month

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the US and across the globe. One million deaths occur every year from heart attack, stroke, and other cardiovascular disorders in the USA alone. In these instances, we missed the opportunity for primary prevention – which would not only save lives, but also reduce the high costs associated with treatment of acute events and the management of the survivors. 

This is unacceptable at a time when we have established therapies like inexpensive antiplatelet drugs, cholesterol lowering agents, diabetes management, tobacco cessation strategies and blood pressure medications – which if initiated early, would significantly reduce these catastrophes. The Heart Healthy Maryland Campaign is determined to bend the curve by offering qualifying adults free vascular screenings.

The Heart Health Foundation (HHF) is a 501(C)(3), non-profit organization dedicated to saving lives through education, early detection and prevention of heart and vascular diseases. With a focus on at-risk and underserved communities, HHF free screenings and educational programs will help reduce the impact of heart disease, promote healthy behavior and increase awareness for our children.
