Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke are the leading causes of death across globe and more
importantly our state and cities. Years of progress have been made reducing these
statistics, unfortunately a widely under reported consequence of the pandemic as been
a dramatic spike in cardiovascular mortality, erasing years of improvement. To reverse
that trend the Heart Health Foundation and its award-winning program Dare to CARE
are leading a statewide campaign in February to “Paint the Town Red-for Heart Healthy
Maryland. By engaging business, religious, political and community leaders to support
our efforts we hope to drive universal participation.
In February we are holding a state wide Dare to CARE Screening Day. At various
locations around the state we will provide free cardiovascular screening and education
from 8:00 to 4:30 pm with screening appointments every 15 minutes. Screening
includes a cardiovascular risk questionnaire, blood pressure, and an ultrasound of the
carotid arteries, abdominal aorta and peripheral arteries. The screening is offered to
anyone 60 and older and anyone 50 and older with vascular risk factors.
We are seeking healthcare organizations that can contribute to our efforts by providing space,
technologists, volunteers, and equipment. We will help you market your efforts within your
catchment area. All participating organizations will be recognized in social, online, print and on
camera publications. This is a first of its kind event and will signal to our communities our
investment in their health.
